I had the best time helping M plan his proposal...


M reached out to me after finding my website, telling me he was planning to propose to his girlfriend. He knew when he wanted to do it, and that he wanted it captured for her — but everything else was still to be decided.


So we jumped on a phone call and talked it all through. We chatted about different ways for me to be there without ruining the surprise, how to get her dressed up a little, how I’d signal to him when it was time, and the little details that would make it feel like them — their favourite song for a dance afterward, bubbles to celebrate, and most importantly… where it would happen.


It was bluebell season, and in my house we say the bluebells are where the fairies live. Every spring we visit them and tell them our wishes for the year. So I had this idea — what if he proposed amongst the bluebells, with the fairies?


Now, every spring when the beautiful blue flowers carpet the English countryside forests, they’ll be reminded of that day. Of their love.


I knew a few places in Hampshire and Surrey where the bluebells bloom, but it was getting toward the end of the season and I wanted somewhere that looked untouched — a true carpet of blue in every direction.


So I packed up the triplets and we headed out to Chantry Woods, just outside Guildford, on a mission.


Pushing a twin stroller with one child walking up the hill to the top of St Martha’s was no small task. Still no bluebells. So down the other side we went… nothing.


Over an hour in, tired, hungry, and sweaty, we were feeling defeated.


Then we found a lovely little section and even stopped for some photos of the kids there (see below), but it still wasn’t quite the feeling I wanted for M & S. We decided to avoid the hill on the way back and took a farm path instead, determined to regroup after food and continue the search elsewhere.

And then I found it.


The spot.


Instantly, I knew.


I dropped a pin in my maps (which I always somehow struggle to do) and sent it over to M with photos of the area. We picked a nearby meeting spot, made a plan, and we were ready.


When the day came, I packed the flutes for later, queued their music on my phone, and headed out.


When I met them, I introduced myself to S and told her M had surprised her with a couples shoot before their dinner that evening. We chatted as we walked to the location, easing into things naturally. We started shooting on the path first, helping them get comfortable in front of the camera before I guided them into the bluebells.


We took a few photos there and then I slowly backed away, giving M his cue — a certain pose prompt we’d planned beforehand.


And he was off.


I stayed far enough away that I couldn’t hear what they were saying, just quietly capturing it all as it unfolded.


And then—


She said yes.


We started the music, and they danced amongst the bluebells laughing, emotional, excited, completely wrapped up in each other.


While they danced, I quietly slipped away to grab the flutes and bubbles for them.


They celebrated together in the middle of the bluebells, and when my time with them was done, I quietly left them there to soak it all in — the bubbles, the moment, and the chance to tell the fairies their wishes.
